Perfect Pit Stop

This post is dedicated to Miss Hailey Katherine Moore.  Avid reader and dedicated fan of SixintheSand.

When making the LONG journey home from Singapore to Texas, one might need a pitstop.  A place to stop, rest and refresh.  Your pitstop choices are Russia (no thank you), Japan (have already spent 7 hours in that airport) or HAWAII! Yes, HAWAII is on the way home from Singapore to the US and that is exactly where we made our pitstop before starting our amazing-never-stop-summer-o-fun.

What made it even better is that it was a pitstop that involved our dearest, bestest friends THE MOORES!  We met up with them in Maui for a week of relaxation and fun.  Keely and I have been best friends since around the 4th grade...That means we are creeping up on 30 years of friendship...Lucky for us the husbands kind of like each other too...(Aggie Fraternity brothers and fishing buds)

AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE HAIR AND THE PLAID,
THIS FRIENDSHIP GOES WAY BACK

Our trip started on June 1 at 7am Singapore time.
(It had been roughly 10 months since we had set foot on US soil!)
In a year's time we had survived another move, 3 schools , and quite frankly, I was done with foreign lands.
ITINERARY:

7 hour flight to Japan and 4 hour layover in Japan
8 hour flight to Honolulu and 2 hour layover in Honolulu
45 minute flight to Maui and a ride on a bus to get rental car
45 minute drive to condo.

It was still June 1 when we made it to Maui.  Will not go into details of how we lost and found 2 cherished items during this travel.....brand new itouch and extra special blue blankie.

What does 24+ hours of travel look like?

A short 24 hours later we were here.  Did I mention it was still June 1!!!!
I could kick myself for not taking pics of the kid's
huge running hugs when they first saw each other!
AHHHHH MAUI!!  I CAN SEE WHY THE MOORES
SPEND EVERY OTHER SUMMER HERE...I DID'T WANT TO LEAVE!

Thanks to Keely's parents who were with us in Maui, we got to have a special
kid-free date night. (THANK YOU YAW-YO AND LA-LA!!!!!)  We went to Lahaina to
see The Banyan Tree, ate an amazing meal and saw a HILARIOUS magic show!
The Banyan Tree was amazing!  Here are some interesting facts about The
Banyon Tree.....that yes, I copy and pasted from internet.
This is ONE tree!  It's limbs grow down into the ground.

This Banyan Tree was planted in April, 1873, and marked the 50th Anniversary of Christian missionary work in Lahaina. The tree was imported from India and was only 8 feet tall. It now stands over 60 feet high, has 12 major trunks in addition to a huge core. It stretches over a 200-foot area and shades 2/3 of an acre. Caring members of the community carefully maintain the symmetrical shape of the Banyan Tree. It is one of the largest Indian Banyan trees in the world

ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS ONE TREE BEHIND US!

IF YOU VISIT MAUI YOU MUST SEE
WARREN AND ANNABELLE'S MAGIC SHOW!

On our last day in Maui we took a beautiful, WINDING, drive along
The Road to Hana. We stopped at one of the waterfalls and the kids took a swim.

UMMM...WHERE ARE WE HEADED?
A LAGOON WITH A HARD-TO-REACH-ROPE!
LUKE?  WHAT'S GOING ON THERE? IT WAS A LOOONG DRIVE
HOW MANY AGGIES DOES IT TAKE TO REACH
A ROPE SWING?

OLIVIA...FIRST KID INTO THE COLD WATER...
AND WE DID NOT EVER REACH THAT ROPE!
NOOOOOO!!!  So not ready to leave Maui....and these friends!
But that Yellow Rose is calling.
2 more plane rides to go!..
Maui to LA and LA to Texas.

Yep, I would say it was the PERFECT PITSTOP.
CHEERS FROM SINGAPORE!
