So Wednesday at pick-up my kiddos came running toward me yelling "Sheikh Mohammed came to our school!" This is a HUGE deal here in Dubai! This would be like President Obama showing up randomly to an American school and taking a tour. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum is the beloved ruler of Dubai and the Vice President of the UAE. His picture is all over Dubai and the kids learn loads about him in school. You could say he is a local celebrity! We knew that eventually the Sheikh would come to see ASD but for security reasons it was kept a secret as to the exact time he would come. The Sheikh came to inaugurate our new school and tour the facilities. The Sheikh himself donated the land many years ago to the American school so the students and staff made sure to welcome him in a big way!
The Sheikh visited 2 classrooms, Blake's being one of them! She was so excited. Unfortunately I was not there with my trusty camera but I swiped these photos from various places on the web. Olivia and Luke got to stand in the hallway waving flags as he walked by and....drumroll please!!! Olivia shook his hand!!! Go Liv!!! This was one of those days that I know my kids will never forget! It made living abroad pretty darn cool!
