Today was a great day! We went to our parent orientation at ASD and the kids got to meet their teachers. While the parents got oriented the kids got to take a tour of the school led by kids who are current ASD students.
The kids teachers were WONDERFUL!!! Blake has a lady named Heidi Williams. She lets the kids call her Ms. Heidi! Blake thought that was great! She has taught at ASD for a while and has also taught school in Shanghai! Blake was so happy to see that she does Writer's Workshop in her class like her Westwood teachers did! Olivia has Ms. Harder. She is a sweet, enthusiastic, young teacher who came to Dubai all by herself to teach! Talk about an adventure! The same with Luke's teacher. Her name is Ms. Cupid! How sweet is that! Ms. Cupid is from Atlanta and came here as well alone and single to teach and make some money! She has the sweetest smile and was so warm and friendly! All three kids were so happy with their teachers and seemed so chipper when we left! I can tell they are going to have a FABULOUS school year!
Sorry, but I must brag on the kids for just a sec...I was so PROUD of them! They walked into a brand new strange-to-them school, with no kids they knew and did great! No tears...big smiles when we picked them up from their tour. They had to walk up to a table filled with kids their age and start playing board games with them...They were so out of their comfort zone and they just shined!!!

3 B's at ASD...Check out the world's tallest building behind them! Little
did we know we would soon be up in it! |

Luke with sweet and smiley Ms. Cupid! |
|
This building is the original ASD campus where the kids will go until the new building is ready. I know, this is just the way things look in Dubai...Inside is much cheerier! |
|
This is where I will drop the kids ever morning. They will walk through the little gate to their teachers.
The girls will take Luke to his line every morning. They said they would take turns with this task! |
After we left ASD we were hungry for lunch and headed to.....a mall!!! We went to The Dubai Mall. Friends, I helped navigate us there! Yes, me! I even showed Deric the best place to park to get closest to the food court! Yeah me! Now the Dubai Mall is right beside the world's tallest building, The Burj Khalifa. You actually enter the Burj from the mall. Since we were there and there were no lines we decided to go up to the top! You can't actually go to the very top (thank goodness) but you do get to go 124 floors up to a viewing deck, which takes about 1 minute to do. The view was AMAZING!!!! The kids were so excited to be able to tell their teachers tomorrow that they went to the top of the Burj. This is a big deal in Dubai!

Waiting to go up! |

This is actually a computer. You point it at an area and it shows you that area
in 1990 when there was nothing here! It also will show you what the area looks like at night. AMAZING! |
|
Out in the water is the "world islands"... |
When we got home the DU guy was waiting for us. Dubai Utilities..He was there to get us some better cable channels going and to speed up our internet in hopes that the magical slingbox would work. Remember Arabic Spongebob? The slingbox is still not working but we are still hopefull! With our upgraded cable we do now have alot more familiar channels and the kids even watched some Disney and Scooby Doo in english when they got home. It was a good day!

Fox News!! Now we might know what is going on at home! |
